Year 11 Othello

Year 11 English students enjoyed performing scenes from Othello. One team even made their own short film, and screened it in class.

Some students were fortunate to meet the cast of the Bell Shakespeare's 2016 production of Othello, after a performance of the play at the Frankston Arts Centre in early August.

Year 9G Maths Excursion

Fitzroy Gardens (Friday 19th August)

Earlier this term 9G were studying the topic of measurement (distance, perimeter, area and volume). As a summary we ventured into the Fitzroy Gardens in Melbourne to walk the Melbourne Maths Trail and apply what we learnt in the classroom on a larger scale.

The students estimated the volume and area of different structures, calculated the number of bricks required to pave the 'People's Path' using different formulas and converted units of distance found in Captain Cook's Cottage.

Unfortunately due to bad weather we had to cut our time short in the Fitzroy Gardens but the girls were happy to take shelter at McDonald's. The 11 girls that went behaved extremely well and represented the school proudly!

Numeracy Week

29th August – 2nd September

The year 7 – 10 students have been celebrating numeracy week from the 29th of August to the 2nd September with daily code cracker questions, guess the number of skittles in the jar, maths amazing race and the maths Olympiad. The year 7/8 classes competed on Thursday against each other solving different problems, puzzles and brain teasers. The winning team was the overall group that correctly solved the most questions.

The year 9/10 classes tackled the maths Olympiad, where teams of 3 competed against one another solving a variety of maths problems to be crowned the overall champions. The week was a great success and we hope to involve the primary school and have interschool competitions in years to come.

Code Cracker:

The more you take, the more you leave behind. What am I?

Have a look at the pictures below to see Year 7/8 boys and girls completing a variety of maths based problem solving questions. Sudoku, unlink the metal chians, mystery shapes, magic squares, brain teasers and tangrams were just some of the tasks students had to tackle in the maths amazing race!
